Overview
In PVX.AI, you can define site roads so that the panel layout avoids these routes. Roads can also serve as alignment references for rack placement. Both manual road tools run the same conversion, so they produce the same road object.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Choose a road tool
Open the Road dropdown on the Site Layout panel of the PVX.AI ribbon. Use Convert to Road to turn a polyline you already drew into a road, or Draw Road to pick the path interactively.
2. Define the path
A closed path is treated as the road footprint directly. An open path is treated as a centerline, and PVX.AI asks for the road width and offsets the corridor for you.
3. Review the result
Either tool produces the same road: rounded corners at the bends, a hatched 2D footprint, a terrain-draped 3D outline, and a dashed centerline for roads created from an open path. The whole operation is a single undo step.
Tips & Recommendations
- Roads can be used as automatic alignment references during rack layout.
- Define separate roads for service access, maintenance paths, and cable trench routes.
- Adjust road width based on your project requirements.
- PVX.AI can also generate roads automatically. Boundary Road in Build Layout rings the site, and the Grading dialog’s Generate roads option routes terrain-aware roads from your site entrances with culvert sizing and mass haul. See the road generation guide for that workflow.
