Voltage Drop in Cabling

Overview

PVX.AI calculates voltage drop automatically as part of cabling generation. There is no separate analysis to run: cables are sized to meet a voltage drop target, and the resulting values are reported per group.

Prerequisites

A saved electrical plan with devices placed, so that cabling can be generated. See DC and AC Cabling.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Generate the cabling

In Auto (cloud) placement mode, cabling runs automatically after the devices are placed. Use Regenerate Cabling to re-run it against the current devices and strings. In Manual mode, assign the DC and AC trenches, then use Generate Selection or Generate All.

2. Understand how the sizing is done

PVX.AI sizes the cables to meet a voltage drop target using standard defaults: the IEC or NEC standard, a copper or aluminium conductor, a target voltage drop percentage, and the system voltage.

3. Read the values per group

After cabling is generated, PVX.AI reports the resulting cross sections, cable lengths, total cable power, and voltage drop percentage for each group.

4. Review the wiring

Open Electrical Design > Information > Overview for the full electrical hierarchy. The same Information dropdown also holds a Cable Information Table.

Tips & Recommendations

  • Moving a placed device prompts a re-cabling so the cables detour around the new position. Re-read the group values afterwards.
  • Every PV area owns its own electrical plan, so generate and check cabling area by area.
  • Export cable lengths with Export > Cables (XLS) for the bill of quantities and procurement.
