Placing BESS Units and PCS Skids

Overview

PVX.AI fills a battery zone automatically, or lets you stamp containers one at a time with live clearance checking. This guide covers both, plus PCS pairing.

Prerequisites

A BESS area must exist and its exposures tagged, as covered in Defining BESS Areas and Tagging Exposures.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Run Auto-Place Zone

From the BESS dropdown, choose Auto-Place Zone. If one area exists it fills that one. If several exist, pick one by name.

2. Review the preview and commit

The preview shows the unit count, usable MWh, rated MW and reserve pad count, plus a validation badge and details. Click Place to commit or Cancel to abort. If the validation gate is set to block and errors remain, nothing is placed.

3. Place units manually

Run Place BESS Units, pick an enclosure, then click to stamp. A live clearance ghost turns red when the effective spacing is violated. Clicking in a clear spot commits one unit.

4. Pair PCS skids for DC blocks

Run Place PCS Skid, pick a DC container, then jig the skid onto it and click to commit. AC blocks skip this step.

Tips & Recommendations

  • Effective spacing is the larger of the manufacturer maintenance clearance and the code separation.
  • In fit capacity mode the energized units hit your target. Reserve pads are placed in addition only when Plan augmentation reserve pads is ticked on the Designer’s Placement step, which is off by default, so a target on its own places exactly enough units to hit that target. In maximize mode the zone is filled and the option is hidden.
  • Use Toggle Reserve Pad to flip a single unit between energized and augmentation reserve. Totals update with it.
