Grading BESS Pads, Fire Lanes, and Vegetation Clearance

Overview

Every container and PCS skid needs a leveled pad, and the site needs fire lanes and a vegetation clearance ring. This guide covers that civil work.

Prerequisites

Terrain must be imported and the units placed. Pad grading settings are set in BESS Settings.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Grade the pads

Click Grade BESS Pads on the Earthworks panel. Each container and skid gets its own leveled pad with embankment side slopes. The grading report opens and grades on load.

2. Read the grading report

There is one row per pad showing Pad, Type, Pad elevation, Cut, Fill, Net, Flood and Findings, plus a totals line. Volumes are measured against the initial pre-construction surface, so re-runs report the same numbers.

3. Regenerate the fire lanes

Auto-placement draws fire lanes for you. After hand-editing the layout, run Regenerate Fire Lanes from the BESS dropdown to recompute them. Old lanes in the zone are replaced, never duplicated.

4. Draw the vegetation clearance

Run Vegetation Clearance to draw a dashed green offset ring at the effective clearance distance. Re-running redraws the ring without duplicating it.

Tips & Recommendations

  • Grading is on demand. After moving or editing units, run Grade BESS Pads again to update the pads.
  • The cut and fill visualization layer is created hidden. Turn it on to inspect the earthworks.
  • Reserve pads are graded too, so the civil work is done once and you never re-grade to augment.
  • One undo reverts an entire grading run, all pads at once.
