BESS Augmentation Planning and Noise Contours

Overview

Batteries fade with age, so most projects add capacity a few years in. The augmentation planner sizes that addition, and the noise contours show how far the sound carries.

Prerequisites

Units must be placed, and the planning horizon and cycles per year are set in BESS Settings.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Open the augmentation planner

Choose BESS Augmentation from the BESS dropdown. The report plans on load and shows the augmentation year and the required MWh, sized at the end of the planning horizon.

2. Compare reserve pads

Compare the reserve pads recommended against those present, then check the per-transformer table of rated capacity, current loading, reserve pads and projected loading. Values above 100 percent are highlighted. The report recommends pads whether or not auto-placement earmarked any, so a recommendation here does not mean pads are already in the drawing.

3. Adjust the reserve fleet

Run Toggle Reserve Pad on a unit to flip it between energized and reserve, then click Re-run to update the plan.

4. Draw the noise contours

Run Noise Contours from the BESS dropdown. PVX.AI draws labeled 45, 55 and 65 dBA rings computed from the catalog noise data of each enclosure. Re-running redraws them without duplicating.

Tips & Recommendations

  • The report lists its assumptions, including any default it used for missing catalog data.
  • Reserve pads contribute nothing to the noise model, and any source without acoustic data is listed in the completion message rather than estimated.
  • Earmarking reserve pads during auto-placement is opt-in: tick Plan augmentation reserve pads on the Designer’s Placement step, in fit capacity mode. Otherwise use Toggle Reserve Pad to create them from placed units.
  • Lot line findings from the noise model appear in the BESS Code Compliance Report.
  • Enter datasheet values in a custom enclosure for the most accurate plan.
