Standalone BESS Plants and Editing a BESS Design

Overview

A storage site with no solar is a first-class path in PVX.AI, not a workaround. This guide covers the standalone workflow and how to edit a design you have already placed.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Start a standalone plant

Import terrain first, since pad grading needs it. Then draw a BESS area, tag the exposures and review BESS Settings. Skip the PV build layout entirely.

2. Place and connect

Run Auto-Place Zone, then place transformers or inverters so the units have electrical parents. Compliance, cabling, grading, augmentation, noise and yield then run exactly as they do in a combined plant.

3. Move or erase a unit

Use Move Device on the Electrical Design panel, which handles BESS units. Racks under the old footprint are restored and racks under the new one are hidden. To erase one unit, select its block and press Delete.

4. Clear a zone

Run Remove All BESS from the BESS dropdown to confirm and clear every placed unit. To remove an area, select its boundary polyline and press Delete.

5. Refresh the derived work

After edits, re-run Regenerate Fire Lanes, Grade BESS Pads, Vegetation Clearance or Noise Contours as needed. Lanes, rings and contours are replaced in place.

Tips & Recommendations

  • Area draws, placement commits, unit erases, reserve toggles and a whole grading run are each a single undo. A move may take several.
  • Grading volumes stay consistent after edits because they are measured against the initial terrain surface.
