Adding 3D Scene Objects

Overview

PVX.AI can place 3D objects (trees, buildings, fences and infrastructure) on the site for accurate shading analysis and richer 3D context. This guide covers adding objects one at a time and batch-creating trees from existing height labels.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Open the window

On the Site Layout panel, click 3D Scene Objects.

2. Choose the object type

Pick the Object type: Tree, Station, Fence, Wind turbine or HV Line.

3. Set the dimensions

The fields adapt to the type. A tree has Tree type (Deciduous, Coniferous or Palm), Diameter, Top height and Trunk height. A wind turbine has tower height and width, blade length, exclusion radius and rotation. An HV line has span, base and top length, arm count and lattice dimensions. A live object preview updates as you type.

4. Place it

Click Add object, then click a point in the drawing. For linear objects such as fences and HV lines, use Along polyline to distribute instances along an existing polyline.

5. Batch-create trees from labels

The From MText action turns MText tree-height labels already in the drawing into PVX.AI tree objects in one pass. Select the labels and each becomes a tree of that height at the label’s position.

Tips & Recommendations

  • From MText is the natural follow-on to a drone survey canopy workflow, where tree heights end up in the drawing as text labels.
  • PVcase tree entities are converted into PVX.AI shading objects automatically during a PVcase import.
