Overview
PVX.AI can directly import point cloud data from drone surveys to create high-precision 3D terrain models. LAS, LAZ, and E57 formats are supported. This guide covers how to import drone data and generate a surface model.
Prerequisites
A point cloud file (LAS, LAZ, or E57 format) from a drone survey and a defined parcel boundary are required.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Click Import Drone Data
On the PVX.AI ribbon, click Import Drone Data to open the point cloud import dialog.
2. Select your file
In the file selection dialog, choose your drone data file (LAS, LAZ, or E57).
3. Select the parcel boundary
The program will ask you to select a parcel boundary on screen. Click on your pre-defined or drawn parcel boundary.
4. Set the mesh spacing
Enter the mesh spacing value. This determines the resolution of the generated surface model. Choose a value between 0.5 m and 30 m depending on your site scale. Wider spacing improves performance for large point clouds.
5. Generate the surface model
Click Build to start processing. PVX.AI will read the point cloud data and automatically create the 3D surface model within the parcel boundary.
Tips & Recommendations
- Use the decimation setting for large point cloud files to reduce processing time.
- Keep mesh spacing between 0.5-5 m for drone data to get the most accurate results.
- After processing, switch to 3D view to inspect the surface model.
