Connecting Battery Storage to the Electrical Design

Overview

Placed batteries join the electrical design through their parent device, the cabling run and the single line diagram, and they feed the yield request and the bill of quantities.

Prerequisites

Units must be placed, and transformers or inverters must exist (see Defining DC Boxes, Inverters, and Transformers) so each unit has a parent.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Confirm parenting

AC-coupled units are parented to a transformer and DC-coupled units to an inverter. Check each parent in the electrical overview, which shows the BESS roll-ups and the per-transformer loading.

2. Run the cabling

Cabling is computed in the cloud as part of the electrical cabling workflow. Cables from other equipment detour around battery zones, batteries inside a zone connect out of it, and fire lanes are used as preferred corridors.

3. Answer the stale cabling prompt

If you convert or erase a BESS area while cables exist, PVX.AI asks whether to regenerate the cabling. Choose Yes to regenerate now or No to do it later. It never regenerates on its own.

4. Generate the outputs

Run Generate SLD to produce a single line diagram that includes the BESS and PCS clusters with their MW and MWh totals.

Tips & Recommendations

  • In the site assessment request window, the battery section auto-populates from the placed non-reserve units. Use From placed BESS to re-run the aggregation.
  • The bill of quantities includes BESS and PCS sections plus a BESS pad earthworks group, recomputed on every export so it matches the grading report.
