Adapting Terrain to Piles

Overview

Adapt Terrain to Pile grades beneath the table rows so every rack meets its pile-length and clearance limits. PVX.AI cuts a real, level rack pad under each table and seats the table on it, then measures the resulting reveals and clearance against that pad, so the drawing reports what the built surface will deliver. Table tilt angles are unchanged.

Prerequisites

Racks placed on a 3D surface inside a PV Area, with the pile parameters set on the rack spec.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Check current conditions

Use Generate Cross-Section on the Layout panel (the Frame Setout tool) to inspect a row: panel positions, front and rear pile lengths, panel-to-ground clearance, and the terrain profile beneath the row.

2. Open the tool

On the Layout panel, click Adapt Terrain to Pile.

3. Set the constraints

Enter the maximum rear pile above-ground length (for example 2.0 m; the limit compares above-ground pile length only) and the minimum front panel-to-ground clearance.

4. Run the adaptation

Start the process. It is scoped to the selected PV Area. PVX.AI cuts the level pad for each table, seats the table on its pad, and brings the reveals and clearance inside your limits without changing tilt.

5. Review the results

The new surface appears with a cut/fill map showing the localized grading zones, and the terrain reappears automatically. Use Create Contour on the Civil sub-tab’s Terrain panel to regenerate contour lines for the modified surface.

Tips & Recommendations

  • Earthwork is limited to the footprint width of each table row, so the natural terrain between rows is preserved.
  • Tilt angles never change. Only the ground is reshaped.
  • Include the resulting cut and fill volumes in your earthworks plan.
  • For a constraint-driven fix on the specific racks that are out of band, use Collision Analysis and its Fix collisions pass, which holds the rest of the PV Area as constraints.
