Overview
Erosion Controls computes RUSLE soil loss and sizes erosion-control structures (check dams, sediment basins, diversion swales and silt fences) using the cloud’s storm, soil and cover-management model, then draws them on the site. This guide covers setting the inputs and running the analysis.
Prerequisites
Imported terrain, a site boundary, and a coordinate system. Pick one if the drawing is not georeferenced.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Open the dialog
On the Civil sub-tab, go to the Analysis panel and click Erosion Controls.
2. Set the inputs
Enter the Design Storm Return Period (yr), Check Dam Height (m) and Basin Min. Contributing Area (ha), then choose the Sizing Criterion: SCS Curve Number (runoff volume) or EPA static. Tick Delineate subcatchments to add watershed delineation.
3. Override the RUSLE factors if needed
The Advanced (RUSLE Overrides) section takes optional values for Rainfall Erosivity R, Soil Erodibility K, Cover-Management C and Support Practice P. Leave them blank to use the server’s defaults, fetched automatically from global datasets for the site location.
4. Run and review
Run the analysis against the site boundary and the imported terrain. It is a cloud job. The result is a soil-loss screening map plus placed, sized control structures.
Tips & Recommendations
- The same erosion model powers culvert sizing in road generation, so the two results stay consistent.
- Run a hydrology analysis first to see where the drainage paths are before you size structures along them.
