Overview
Generate Contours draws elevation contour lines from the loaded terrain. It is the tool to use whenever you need fresh contours, in particular after an earthworks operation has changed the surface. This guide covers generating them.
Prerequisites
Terrain must be loaded in the drawing.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Open the dialog
On the Civil sub-tab, go to the Terrain panel and click Create Contour to open the Generate Contours dialog.
2. Set the intervals
Minor Interval (m) is the spacing between contour lines, with a default of 1.0 m. Major Every Nth sets how often a contour becomes bold and labeled, with a default of every 10th line.
3. Check the preview and generate
A live preview updates as you change the values. When the spacing reads well for your plan sheets, click Generate.
4. Find the output
Contours are drawn onto the PVXAI_Contour_Major, PVXAI_Contour_Minor and PVXAI_Contour_Label layers.
Tips & Recommendations
- Existing contours on those three layers are replaced each time you generate, so you can re-run the tool freely.
- Regenerate contours after every grading run so the drawing shows the surface you will actually build.
